Prince-

Prince is truly one of the greatest soul/R&B/rock artist the world has ever seen. Not only is he a multi platinum artist he has helped other artist musically. He has supported Vanity 6, The Time and Shelia E. Prince is truly a one man show, writing, producing and playing the instruments for most of his tracks. Prince also had a hit feature film in the 80s entitled Purple Rain. I highly recommend that you watch it and get the soundtrack! A must for any lover of soul! Amazing Fact: Prince wrote his first tune, “Funk Machine” on his father’s piano when he was seven!!

Teena Marie-

Teena Marie’s voice is full of soul! Teena has a few names including Lady Tee and the Ivory Queen of Soul. At a young age she discovered her voice and started auditioning at the age of 8 for acting and singing jobs. In 1976 she was signed to Motown where she met Rick James. He loved her sound and helped her produce her debut album. Teena went on to become of the most beloved white acts in “black” music. Amazing Fact: Teena Marie had a fever when she recorded “Fire and Desire” with Rick James and recorded the amazing vocal in only one take before being rushed to the hospital.

Comments

  1. I remember being love with Prince and his style as well as his music. His androgynous appearance did not confuse me…He was sexy. Further, I remember Teena Marie was amazing when she recorded with Rick James and took me by surprise when I learned she was not Black. Great artists of the Day! The 80’s that is. 🙂
