Artist of the Day: Frankie Beverly and Maze
Founded in the 70s, this Philadelphia band (originally called Raw Soul) did not see success until they were chose to tour with Marvin Gaye. Gaye actually suggested that they change their name to Maze. Maze is known for giving amazing live shows (I know this first hand). They will be featured as the closing artist at the Essence Music Festival.
Artist of the Day: Issac Hayes
Issac Hayes wrote and produced many songs while he was at Stax records. He helped pin the song “Soul Man”. Sam & Dave sung the song originally. The song has been recognized as one of the most influential songs from the last 50 years from the Grammy Association. If you ever have a chance to visit the Stax Museum, do it’s full of soul history.
