HOW_59

Hello record lovers! Thanks for listening to another week of oldies on vinyl on House Of Wax. We started off the show by playing The Drifters’ “There Goes My Baby” in honor of the late great Ben E. King who passed away on April 30, 2015 at the age of 76. He is best remembered for the classic song “Stand By Me” which had just been added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress weeks before his passing. His stint in The Drifters came after all original members had been fired in 1958 and replaced with King’s singing group at the time, the Five Crowns. The song “There Goes My Baby” is thought to be the first commercial rock or R&B record to include a string arrangement. This inclusion would become a huge influence on pop music to follow, especially those records produced by Phil Spector. We played few new records on today’s show including the Johnnie & Joe, The Rugbys, and a new copy of the single “Liar, Liar” by The Castaways on the original Soma record label named after its Minneapolis owner, Amos Heilicher (SOMA = AMOS backwards). I hope to have a few more new singles cleaned and ready to play by Thursday, I hope you can join me again. Here’s last week’s playlist an example of what you can expect to hear on House Of Wax:
