Straight from London, Jessie Ware brought amazing energy and personality to her first Atlanta show. Jessie’s sophisti-pop sound drew in a large and diverse crowd to the Loft.  Her vocals drifted effortlessly over the darkness as the crooned out tunes like “Sweet Talk” and “Wildest Moments”, from her debut album Devotion. Her show had a personal feel with lots of conversations with the audience. Not only did she share her songs with the audience, but she revealed the inspiration of the tunes.

In her song “Taking In Water” she sings”I wish I was you
A piece of gold of the bottom of the blue
To heavy to swim
But too beautiful to lose
Hold in my breath
And diving down to give you air
I never knew the colours that surround you”.

Before performing this powerful song she explained that she wrote it for her brother. He was dealing with a lot of adversity and she truly admired him. She didn’t know how to talk to him about it so she made it a song. It was a pleasure to get a peak into the history of the songs and made them even more meaningful. Her energy reflected genuine excitement, in the fact that she was in Atlanta for the first time. She joked and danced, explaining how the crowd chanting “Jessie” sounded like  the “Jerry Springer” chant and that she sometimes feels like Ricky Lake.

Overall, I greatly hope this will not be her last visit to Atlanta. She truly entertains effortlessly and puts on no special airs for the show. To be at a Jessie Ware show, is to become like one of her mates and she wants to sing a few tunes just for you.
