On this week’s episode of Straight Thru The Night we talked a bit about 80s animation. Travers revealed that Akira and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were his favorite animated film and TV series respectively. Before Matt could even present his own, we were deep down a rabbit hole talking about scientifically accurate representations of laser weaponry and posing curiosities about just how the mutagen ooze from TMNT works. We went on to discuss the lackluster and befuddling plot to Robo Vampire during our “Retch-Ro Cinema” segment. At the very least, we learned about the origins behind the Chinese folklore surrounding their “hopping vampires”. Check below for what’s on the block for the next episode. Speaking of, we’ll be on break next week so we won’t return until Monday, August 21. It’s going to be our second-to-last episode for this summer so be sure to tune in!

Retch-Ro Cinema – Week 8

If you hated this past week’s RRC pick, Robo Vampire, well, you’re in good company. Okay, I guess hated is a strong word – but it certainly wasn’t as entertaining as some of our other films have been. Matt and Travers confessed to tuning out at parts with the expectation that a film titled Robo Vampire would be dominated by robots and vampires and not some B-plot about drug enforcement agents being kidnapped and what not. But what can you really expect when you find out that Godfrey Ho’s directorial motif includes mashing up two films with separate stories into one confusing mess. At least the Chinese hopping vampires were authentic. Our film for the next episode (which is August 21st by the way; we’re on break next week) has a bit more plot and honestly, the highest amount of legit Hollywood names attached. Check out the trailer for the 1986 turbo killer thriller, The Wraith:

Charlie Sheen? Randy Quaid? Clint Howard! Ohhhh yeah. Though it’s far from the highest rated film, we can expect at the very least that this is one solid narrative. Plus look at that rad car! Normally we post a link for listeners so that they can watch along before our discussion so that they can enjoy it that much more, and yes, this film is available scattered across parts on the regular video sites but it’s also the first of our picks that you can watch thru Netflix, so that’s how we recommend you take it in! Then tune in on Monday, August 21 from 8-10 p.m. EST for a brand new episode and segment of “Retch-Ro Cinema”.
