Both boys of summer were back for a brand new episode of Straight Thru The Night this past Monday night. Travers and Matt talked about Netflix’s latest retro-themed series: GLOW and the weirdness of being trapped in a generation between Millennials and Generation X. Somehow, the full adoption or rejection of the Pokemon franchise seems to be the dividing line in that respect. We were also thrilled to talk about our “Retch-Ro Cinema” pick for the week: Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. It’s a fun musical romp that includes love triangles, struggles of the lower socioeconomic class, and overt racism. Street gangs settle their beef with choreography and moonwalking is always a viable mode of transportation. This is a world where dancing is a highly contagious virus and rhythm literally brings a dead man back to life. We highly recommend this movie. Oh, we also played some music:

Retch-Ro Cinema – Week 5

While we were positively delighted by the on-screen chemistry of Boogaloo Shrimp and Shabba Doo, this week on “Retch-Ro Cinema” we’re taking a hard turn back into the sci-fi genre with the film Robot Jox. Although filming finished in 1987, the bankruptcy of Empire pictures delayed the movie’s release until 1990 and survives as a short-span time capsule of the late 80’s cinematic insanity from that particular production house (sidenote: Empire pictures was formed by Charles Band who you may rememeber as the director of our first “Retch-Ro Cinema” feature – Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn). In a post apocalyptic world, the superpowers settle disputes with the aid of gigantic man-piloted robots. Fans of Zords, Voltron, Gundam, and Jaegers will be intrigued! Check out the trailer:

What we will Matt and Travers have to say about this clash of the mechanical titans? Tune in to the upcoming episode of Straight Thru The Night to find out!
