We were back in the swing of things this past week on Straight Thru The Night. Travers was inspired to create a playlist that featured retrowave songs with vocal tracks which had us guessing how modern musicians are able to so closely mimic production styles of the past. Is it all in the gear? Is the gear vintage? Or do they just wave a magic wand over everything in post production? The bulk of our chat sessions were about the “Retch-Ro” cinema pick for this week: Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn. While it was a nice entry into our “so bad, it’s good” preferences for the segment; we couldn’t help but feel the overall blandness of the movie. And the ending was so abrupt that we even felt a little cheated that there was no payoff where the hero defeats the villain. In fact it really feels like they were setting up for a sequel. Well get on it Charles Band! Now that 3-D movies are standard, it feels like the right time to catch up with Dogen and the gang. Anyway, we’re gonna ramp it up with this week’s pick which you can read about below. Before that, how about checking out the vocally rich playlist from this week’s show:

Retch-Ro Cinema – Week 2

After enduring the molasses paced action that Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn had to offer, we decided this week’s film should be nothing but straight-up martial arts mayhem. This upcoming week on “Retch-Ro Cinema” we will be talking about Ninja III: The Domination. It is the third title in the so called “Ninja Trilogy” by Cannon Films with perhaps the craziest premise: The body of a sexy aerobics instructor is invaded by the evil spirit of a dying ninja. Oh man. Just look at this trailer below:

We like our movies similar to a film sound stage where the director has a tic and they repeatedly call out for the start of a scene: action packed! Join us in viewing this 1984 cult classic and tune in Monday night four our coverage on another session of Straight Thru The Night’s “Retch-Ro Cinema”. Full movie can be seen here.

Straight Thru The Night airs every Monday night from 8-10 p.m. EST on SCAD Atlanta Radio.
