Stuck In The 70s took a crack at the rock music of 1972 this past week. What was so great about 1972? Neil Diamond released the live double album Hot August Night. And while the entirety of music culture that year could have started and stopped with that, there was just a bit more going on. John Lennon fights to stay in the U.S. after the expiration of his immigration visa. The members of Led Zeppelin are banned from playing a concert in Singapore due to laws prohibiting males from wearing long hair. The first New Year’s Rockin’ Eve airs on NBC hosted by the band Three Dog Night. A Los Angeles DJ locks himself in his studio and plays Donny Osmond’s “Puppy Love” for 90 minutes straight. Pink Floyd debuts Dark Side of the Moon live in concert a full year before the classic album is released. Other debut albums released come from the Eagles, Blue Oyster Cult, Roxy Music, Steely Dan, and Michael Jackson. Check out the playlist for some other musical highlights from the year 1972:
