Goooooooooooooooooooood afternoooooooooooooooooooon listeneeeeeeeeeeeers! DJ ‘Froyuken here again and as promised last week, For tonight’s playlist you’re in for a treat! Since episode six had songs from video games, why not provide animated programming songs with the same kind of opportunity? After much thought, I figured the best way to put this all together was to only use songs from shows that aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. We all remember Toonami, right? For those unfamiliar, here’s an abridged history. It was a weekday afternoon cartoon block that began back in 1997 consisting of action-packed cartoons that appealed to preteen/teenage boy demographic. It’s time slots would change over the years until eventually filling only a time slot for Saturday nights and after a few years later, its tragic cancellation in 2008. However, after being absent for four years (and positive feedback from vocal longtime fans after watching an April Fools surprise airing of the block) Toonami made a welcome return for its now adult original audience last spring to replace Adult Swim’s action block. To this day Toonami is still on the air and shows no signs of leaving its fans any time soon. Anyways, the below songs cover the shows the block aired from 1997 to 2003 and are played in the order of their original Toonami debuts. Check ’em out and look forward to a nostalgia rush!
