Goooooooooooooood eveniiiiiiiiiing listeneeeers! DJ ‘Froyuken here to bring you the playlist for tonight’s show. BEMANI month is continuing with episode four tonight containing songs from Konami’s 4th BEMANI game, an improved sequel to their first BEMANI game which debuted with its first release in February 26th, 1999, beatmania IIDX (the “DX” stands for “deluxe). Unlike its prequel beatmania, an additional white and black key was added to the interface for a total of seven keys, a widescreen display, effector knobs, and an improved sound system was added to the arcade cabinet. The series, would find its start as a hip-hop focused game like beatmania before it, but by the third game it found its own identity by specializing in trance, electronica, J-pop, and various other genres of music. Other than the aforementioned additional bells and whistles, the gameplay remains the same as beatmania’s. As of current, the series is at its 20th mainline release, beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro which released last September, with no signs of waning popularity. It’s one of my favorite BEMANI titles and after playing it for about 8 years, I’m STILL not as great as I want to be at the game!
