DJ ‘Froyuken here to bring you the playlist for tonight’s show. BEMANI month is concluding with episode five tonight containing songs from Konami’s 5th BEMANI game, their entry into the rock and roll genre with its first release in sometime in March, 1999, Guitar Freaks. As the name implies, this BEMANI title focuses mainly on the guitar by utilizing a guitar peripheral lined with three buttons along its neck that must be pressed along to the on-screen cues. A few months later, in July, 1999, the second iteration is released along with the first of its complimentary drum-based arcade cabinet drummania, which utilized a drum set peripheral containing six parts that had to be hit. Due to this unorthodox release, both games would continue to receive new iterations that were one “mix” apart from one another (Guitar Freaks 3rd Mix & drummania 2nd Mix, Guitar Freaks 11th Mix & drummania 10th Mix, etc.) until this was rectified with the 12th iteration, Guitar Freaks V & drummania V, in February 2005. In March 10, 2010, the series would get a spin-off named Guitar Freaks & drummania XG which added two more buttons to the guitar and an additional three parts of the drum set to hit.. As of current, both versions are consolidated with the recent release of GITADORA in February 14th of this year; the 23rd game in the series.
