Soccer Mommy, a.k.a Sophie Allison, is a Nashville-based artist whose music takes me on a nostalgic journey. Her song “Your Dog” places me in the backseat of my best friends’ 1998 Jeep Cherokee as it rides along the side of upstate New York’s defrosting mountains in early spring, a typical day for me when I was 15 and a junior in high school. Her bedroom pop music, filled with hazy guitar and ambient synths, can transport anyone back in time to a moment that seems distant yet familiar. Perhaps this sensation is invoked by Soccer Mommy’s vulnerable lyrics, words and feelings that are so youthful and tangible that they feel similar to what you’d find in a 20 year olds’ diary (or the margins of a math notebook). Her intimate music is what makes my excitement for her show with Phoebe Bridgers at Aisle 5 grow more and more everyday. Don’t do yourself the disservice of not checking out her music here.
