.WaveLength – Week 5

Welcome to the weekly roundup of the top electronic songs. Most of the tracks featured here were released the previous week, so if a song or album drops on a Friday, it will likely appear on this list the following Friday. The selections are presented in no particular order and showcase a wide range of styles within electronic music. Even if electronic music isn’t something you usually listen to, I recommend giving the first 30 seconds of each song. You might be surprised to discover something you really enjoy.

Disclaimer: The songs picked are not necessarily the ONLY songs released in the last week, but are an editor’s choice.

Shades of Blue” – John Summit (House)

John Summit is most known for his electronic dance music, with his debut album “Comfort in Chaos” alongside artist HAYLA reaching top charts and being played at major festivals such as Coachella, ULTRA Miami, and Lollapalooza. “Shades of Blue” is his newest song, released alongside his new album “CTRL ESCAPE”. Definitely a name to look out for if you enjoy dance music.

BBFL” – GRiZ (Dubstep)

GRiZ, the North-Detroit raised musician, is widely known for his use of a saxophone in his funk and bass music. Even in his live shows, he showcases his artistry live, making good out of his saxophone and DJ controller. Go give “BBFL” a listen if you like funky music.

SHAKEUP” OOTORO (Dance Electronic/Tech House)

Hailing from Jakarta, OOTORO has firmly established himself as my favorite Indonesian electronic producer. He continues to work hard, being featured alongside artists such as AC Slater, and released on record labels like STMPD, NIGHTMODE, Malaa’s Illegal Mixtape, and Thrive Music. “SHAKEUP” is definitely a club bounce rhythm song.

“Eyes Cut Deeper” – Subtronics x Inez (Dubstep)

Subtronics’ name originates from the two words “Subwoofer” and “Electronic,” which are the only two words needed to describe his style of music. His sound design in dubstep continues to be at the forefront of innovation. “Eyes Cut Deeper” is a collaboration with Inez, who has done vocals for popular electronic artists like John Summit, who appears on this list as well. Also, one of the few artists renowned for mixing ability.

MI NOVIO” – Tokischa x Diplo (Dance/Trap)

Tokischa might be the first hybrid rap artist on “.Wavelength.” Typically, the Dominican musician uses trap and reggaeton, but her new album “AMOR & DROGA” showcases work across multiple different parts of the electronic music industry. Featured in “MI NOVIO” is Diplo, but other artists like Skrillex also appear. Diplo is one of the few artists who feel too famous to even require an intro. If you know nothing about Diplo, the only thing you need to know is the fact that he’s been making music for over 20 years and has 13 Grammy nominations with 3 wins.

Body 2 Body” – Juos x Quilano x ATIANA (Tech House)

Juos is a Tech/Latin House DJ who’s played at major festivals. Quliano, the Los Angeles-based artist, brings a fresh and innovative approach to the underground sound, drawing inspiration from his deep love for hip-hop, disco, and the underground. ATIANA is a dance music vocalist redefining the structure of the club space with a darker, intimate sound. Someone to take note of as she traverses the electronic scene.

Panta Rhei”- Just A Gent x LORA (Trap)

Created in 2013, Just a Gent is an outlet from Jacob Zachary Grant showcasing his unique approach with chilled electronica and dance. LORA, like Just a Gent, hails from Australia with a similar melodic sound that Just a Gent continues to use and innovate with. Give “Panta Rhei” a listen if you like a more relaxed electronic melodic sound.

Make You Move” – Dillon Francis (Trap)

Dillon Francis is a large reason for Diplo, and many artists looking to achieve a similar line of success. Dillon Francis was, and and in some ways still is, a pioneer in electronic dance and trap music. I wrote about Diplo above this, but the point is, if you like Diplo’s music, you’re also likely to have a connection with Dillon Francis. Check out “Make You Move” if you don’t believe me.

BACK2LIFE” – bauti x Rico56 (Dubstep)

Bauti is definitely the youngest artist featured on “.Wavelength” so far. At 19 years of age, he’s created some good tunes, with “BACK2LIFE” being a collaboration with Rico56. Rico 56 is slowly becoming a rising voice in the new era of Dubstep and bass tracks. He has gained traction through Spotify, with support from UKF, Sirius XM, and Monstercat, with a focus on high-impact bass music.

ifidieyouwouldcry” – AVAION x BUNT. (House)

AVAION is from southern Germany. He has been making music since 2017, but has performed at events such as the Open Beatz Festival. BUNT. has an extremely melodic house style that makes him completely unique and fun to listen to every single time he releases. Being from Germany, the word Bunt translates to colorful, which is exactly how I would describe his music. It has a very pretty feeling, harder to describe than to hear. You can check out his other single, “Clouds” with Nate Traveller.
